Ken Carder
BISHOP KENNETH L. CARDER is the Ruth W. and A. Morris Williams Distinguished Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry, Duke Divinity School Bishop Carder received a B.S. Degree from East Tennessee State University, M.Div. from Wesley Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. from Vanderbilt Divinity School. Millsaps College awarded him the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 2004. Dr. Carder is the author of five books, Sermons on United Methodist Beliefs; Who Are We? The Doctrine, Mission, and Ministry of The United Methodist Church, Leader’s Guide; A Bishops Reflections;, and Living Our Beliefs: The United Methodist Way, the second edition of which was published in 2009. He co-authored with Dr. Laceye Warner Grace to Lead: Practicing Leadership from a Wesleyan Perspective. He has contributed to articles in several journals, including Christian Century, Quarterly Review, Circuit Rider, and Christian Social Action. Bishop Carder has lectured and preached at universities, colleges, and conferences throughout the United States as well as Mexico, Korea, Finland, England, Austria, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.
Coreena d'Alessandro
Coreena d'Alessandro is a mother with a big heart. She is active in numerous community services including the Dorothy Day Center in Danbury, Connecticut. Coreena is co-founder and co-owner of a small business. She resides in Reading, Connecticut with her husband and three children.
Jack Goldstone
Dr. Jack Goldstone is the Virginia E. and John T. Hazel Jr. Professor at the George Mason School of Public Policy and an Eminent Scholar. His work on issues such as social movements, revolutions, and international politics has won him global acclaim. The author or co-author of 9 books, Professor Goldstone is a leading authority on regional conflicts, has served on a U.S. Vice-Presidential Task Force on State Failure, and is a consultant to the U.S. State Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
Kate Parker-Burgard
Kate Parker-Burgard is the Director of Character Education at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan, CT. A graduate of Hamilton College (BA) and Union Theological Seminary (MDiv), Kate was ordained in the United Methodist Church, and presently is a member of the Monroe Congregational Church in CT where she is the chairperson of the Board of Outreach. Kate is involved with many community service organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Free the Children and others.
Bonnie Shepherd
Bonnie Shepherd is a Business Executive at Spark Modern Fires in Bethel, CT. She and her husband Michael have a deep passion for the welfare of children believing that all children should live in a safe, loving home. They have raised two foster children along with their own son. They are dedicated to helping children in the developing world countries get educated by providing for their tuition. Bonnie has been to Mozambique three times serving as a Volunteer in Mission. She also serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors for the Mozambique Orphanage Fund. She is a recipient of the Harry Denman Evangelism Award in appreciation for her significant leadership in the United Methodist Church. She and her husband have also been awarded "Citizen of the year" in 2004 by the General Assembly - State of CT through the Rotary Club of New Milford
Bilal Wahab
Bilal Wahab is a doctoral student at George Mason University where he studies economic and political transition in the Middle East. Bilal received his Master's Degree from American University on a Fulbright Scholarship. In Iraq, he served as a governance advisor for citizen participation in public decision making at USAID's Local Governance Program. Bilal worked with local authorities in five northern Iraqi provinces to promote transparency and accountability toward democratic governance. Prior to that, he worked for the Uited Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. In the run up to Iraq's first democractis elections, he worked for the International Republican Institute, where he trained election candidates and monitored the elections. He also lectured at Salahaddin University's College of Law and Political Science. He has made frequent media appearances on Aljazeera English, National Public Radio, News Hour with Jim Lehrer and other media outlets. He also consults at the World Bank's Institutional Integrity Vice Presidency. His most-cited article appeared in Middle East Quarterly, entitled "How Oil Smuggling Greases Violence in Iraq."
